Illume Software Unveils New Mobile Solution at Distracted Driving Summit
WASHINGTON--Illume Software is pleased to announce the upcoming release of its flagship product, iZUP™, a new mobile solution to cell phone-related distracted driving.
iZUP, available in fall 2009, helps drivers stay focused by holding text messages, e-mails and calls while driving. For parents of teen drivers, businesses and anyone else concerned about the dangers of texting or talking while driving, iZUP offers a smart, simple solution.
It’s no coincidence that iZUP chose the Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, D.C. for the unveiling, as more than 200 safety experts, researchers and legislators are gathering under the leadership of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to address the growing safety risk that distracted driving presents in communities all across America.
According to the American Automobile Association, people who text while driving are 50 percent more likely to be involved in an accident and, recent studies show, are more dangerous than drunk drivers. This problem has become a fixture in the news, prompting lawmakers nationwide to spearhead legislation banning or restricting mobile phone use while driving.
“Mobile phones have created a world of convenience, but at the same time they have created one of the biggest safety issues facing us today,” said Matthew Growney, CEO of Illume Software. “As lawmakers are working diligently to address this issue, we believe a technology solution will ultimately be necessary to change widespread consumer behavior and enforce that legislation.”
Built upon groundbreaking, patent-pending technology, iZUP leverages GPS to determine if a person is driving. While driving, incoming calls are sent to voice mail and text messages are held until the vehicle stops and a driver can read and respond to them safely. iZUP also prevents outgoing communication while driving, yet always allows emergency calls to 9-1-1 and communication between authorized numbers, such as a parent’s cell phone.
The beta version of iZUP will be available to the public in fall 2009. Illume Co-Founder Darcy Ahl is attending the Distracted Driving Summit. To reach Darcy, or to learn more about iZUP, please visit www.illumesoftware.com.
