Team JEGS / Pre-race Notes JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals National Trail Raceway Columbus, Ohio (Sept. 24-27) This weekend, the Coughlin family will field seven individual entries in the JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals. John Coughlin will race in Top Dragster and Super Stock. Mike Coughlin will run in Top Sportsman and Troy Coughlin Jr., will race in Super Comp. In addition, third-generation racers Cody, Jack and Paige Coughlin will participate in the Jr. Dragster class. John Coughlin has won three national event titles in Columbus. He won in Super Gas in 1993, Pro Stock Truck in 1999, and Super Stock in 2003 Mike Coughlin has won four national event titles in Columbus. He won in Super Comp in 2002 and 2003 and recorded back-to-back wins in Top Sportsman in 2006 and 2007. Jeg Coughlin Jr., has won three national event titles in Columbus. He won in Super Gas in 1990, Super Stock in 1996 and Pro Stock in 1998. Troy Coughlin Sr., reached the Pro Stock final at the 1997 Columbus event before finishing runner-up to Tom Martino. Collectively, the Coughlin family has claimed 10 national event wins at their home track, National Trail Raceway, the most of any facility. The Coughlin family has also claimed three Lucas Oil Series Divisional wins at National Trail Raceway. Mike won the Top Sportsman title in 2007, John won in Super Stock in 2002 and family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. won the Pro Comp title in 1976. In addition to their national and divisional event wins, the Coughlin’s have won three specialty events at National Trail Raceway. Jeg won the JEGS (Then TRW) Allstars race in 1991 and 1997 and John claimed a victory in the Top Dragster Shootout held during the 2007 JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals. At the 2003 Columbus race, the Coughlin family claimed a pair of victories with John winning in Super Stock and Mike claiming the Super Comp title. The 1996 race was also memorable as Jeg Jr., scored a win in Super Stock and a runner-up finish in Super Gas. John Coughlin is the current points leader in the North Central Division Top Dragster standings. He leads Robert Cireddu by a single point. John is also ranked 11th in the Super Stock standings while Mike is presently the sixth ranked driver in the Top Sportsman class. John and Mike both won divisional championships in their respective classes in 2007.
