Scott Sharp and David Brabham earned a position in the final top nine vote getters for the American Le Mans Series most popular driver award after three weeks of voting. The duo will now join championship rival Gil de Ferran, fellow Acura driver Luis Diaz, Corvette stars Olivier Beretta, Jan Magnussen and Johnny O'Connell plus GT rivals Joey Hand and Patrick Long in the final fan vote. Brabham is looking to take back-to-back awards after a spectacular run of race victories in the LMP2 class earned the popular Australian last year's award. "There are so many great drivers in this series that it is a privilege to have won these awards and obviously my heartfelt thanks go out to all of the fans that voted for me," said Brabham after clinching last year's prize. Heading into this week's Petit Le Mans, Brabham and Sharp enjoy a 17-point lead in the LMP1 title with three race wins under their belt. "Looking at how many autographs Brabs and I get to sign at each race, I think Patrón Highcroft Racing is certainly one of the most popular teams in the paddock," Sharp said. "Myself, David, Duncan and everybody on the team know full well we wouldn't get the chance to race without the fans so we really do appreciate their support." Team owner Duncan Dayton has also been a favorite of the American Le Mans Series fans. For the past three years, Dayton has been selected in the final five for the "From the Fans" award which goes to the person or group who has made the greatest contribution to the sport this year. The man who has turned his historic racing squad into a factory-supported, fully-sponsored, championship-leading race team earned the prize for the first time in 2007. Dayton drove for his own team in 2006 and the opening race of 2007 before concentrating on team ownership and building his Danbury, CT-based squad into a championship winning outfit. "Winning the 'From the Fans' award in 2007 was an incredible honor," Dayton said. "We have always strived to give the fans a great show on the track, and also present the team in the most professional way that we can - from the trucks, to the uniforms to our posters and hero cards.
