DAYTONA BEACH, September 21, 2009: Grand-Am Road Racing announced today penalties and fines to the top two KONI Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner (ST) finishing cars and drivers from Miller Motorsports Park as a result of rule infractions following the Salt Lake City 200 on Friday, Sept. 18.

The race-winning No. 171 APR/Gunther VW Volkswagen GTI and No. 181 APR/BBS Volkswagen GTI, both from APR Motorsport, were found to be using unauthorized engine modifications, a violation of the general automobile regulations (4-2.2), following their 1-2 finish.

The drivers - co-winners Dion von Moltke and Mike Sweeney and runners-up Ian Baas and Josh Hurley - as well as both cars and manufacturer lost all points and prize money. The team was also fined $5,000 for each car as a result of the infraction.

The season-ending race for the KONI Sports Car Challenge is the four-hour combined Bosch Engineering Octoberfest on Oct. 4 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va.
