A fourth place to celebrate (Press-Release)
A fourth place to celebrate
September 20th, 2009
Alvaro Parente ended his GP2 homeweekend with a good fourth place, giving something to celebrate to the Portuguese fans present at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, after a good recuperation that ended in the fourth place.
In Saturday's race the Portuguese driver was, once again, one of the stars, having reached the eighth place, though he had started from the last place of the grid. However, a tangle with Sergio Perez ended Alvaro Parente's great drive. "When Dani Clos spun in the last corner, which is flat, I had to brake hard to avoid him and Sergio Perez was able to put himself alongside me. He was in the inside for the first corner, but in the second I had the line and I didn't back off. We touched and we had to retire. It's disappointing because I could start the Sunday's race from pole-position, but he had space and I was in the kerb and I was entitled to defend my position. In the end, it was a racing accident and I would do the same thing again", said the driver supported by Soccerade, Delta, TMN, Aurora Group, Geotur/Star e Cision.
At Sunday's race the Ocean Racing Technology driver was luckier, and with a good recuperation, helped by some penalties gave to other drivers, ended in the fourth place with Dani Clos in his sights. "The start was very messy, with cars overtaking with Safety-Car. After the restart I attacked the best I could and I overtake some cars which, with some penalties gave to other drivers, allowed me to reach the fifth position. I was pressing Dani Clos, but I didn't have the top speed to pass him, but a fifth place, after starting from sixteenth, is a good result", underlined the twenty-four years old driver, who reach the fourth spot, following a twenty-five seconds penalty gave to Sergio Perez, after the stewards concluded that he overtook other cars under yellow flags.
With so many problems during this weekend, the fourth place that he conquered in the second race was a good way of ending the championship. "It was a tough event, with technical problems in the Friday and the first race incident. I would like to offer a good result to the Portuguese fans, a win would be fantastic. But with so many troubles, this fourth place is a good result for the end of the season", said the Portuguese driver.
