Daly Moves On To Road Atlanta

Noblesville, September 19, 2009: Mazdaspeed driver Conor Daly will arrive in Road Atlanta for the penultimate round of the Star Mazda championship presented by Goodyear looking to fulfill his personal goal of becoming a multiple race winner during the 2009 season. He will arrive straight from a European testing trip that saw him set the fastest Formula Renault lap time ever set by the Douglas Driver Development team at Kirkistown, Northern Ireland. DDD principal Wayne Douglas has overseen the test programs of many of Britain’s young drivers including the 2008 British Champion, Adam Christodoulou. “Conor was curious about the Formula Renault chassis and having watched him develop so well this year we were curious about him. We have had many talented drivers through our program but there is no doubt, Conor is the real deal. He is decisive in the car, knows what its doing and set a blazing time”, said Wayne. “It was a bit of a whirl wind trip testing for four days in two different countries at two different tracks all within five days. It was a great learning experience for me. The car is very different to my Star Mazda and Wayne’s experience was invaluable because he accelerated my learning process. The tests have given me an appetite to maybe do a little more”, said Conor.

When Conor gets on track during the Petite Le Mans preparations on Tuesday Sept 22nd, he will be looking to continue his impressive recent stat of having been the fastest Star Mazda driver in five of the past six official days of Star Mazda on track activity. He will also be looking forward to continuing his end of season momentum and finishing one place better than his recent second place finish at the last round of the championship in Mosport, Canada.

“Although I have never raced at Road Atlanta before, we had a good test there and I am confident that the recent run of speed can continue. I found the track to be somewhat challenging to learn because there appears to be many nuances about it that you need to know if you are to go really fast. My engineer, Mike Reggio and I have now developed a really good understanding of what I need from the car and if I can continue to improve my race craft, we should be in good shape”, said Conor.

Conor is currently third in the seasons points standings, 57 points out of first place with 90 points up for grabs in the final two races. Conor is one of six race winners this season having won the fourth round of the championship from the pole at the New Jersey Motorsports Park.
