Miller Barrett Racing - Utah qualifying

Miller Barrett Racing will start the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race
at Miller Motorsports Park from 11th on the GT class grid. The race will be
the first for the rookie team on the 4.486-mile road course in Tooele, Utah.

 

Kevin Roush of Upland, Calif., qualified the team's No. 48 Porsche 911 GT3
Cup car, carrying the colors of team sponsors Marquis Jet, IPC Systems and
Total Lubricants. Roush logged a quick lap time of two minutes 52.695
seconds at an average speed of 93.515 mph. He will drive the first race
stint on Saturday, followed by Bryce Miller of Summit, N.J.

 

Although the team was focussed on fine-tuning the car's race setup, Roush
was happy with the qualifying run.

 

"It was encouraging," he said. "That was the first time we made big
improvements here. The car was a lot better - a second and a half faster
than it had been all day. We're going the right way and the good news is, we
have one more shakedown before the race tomorrow to make some more changes
in that direction. The team did a great job and it can be greater later!"

 

The long track length and the short 15-minute qualifying time made for an
intense session.

 

"There were several debris flags in qualifying," Roush noted. "I saw two
cars go off - the 30 in front of me and the 86 behind me - so everybody was
going for it. In a 15-minute session, you're only going to get three or four
laps max on this 4.5-mile track. You have to put a good one in, then go for
it."

 

The two-hour 45-minute race is set for 3:30 pm MT (6:30 pm ET) on Saturday.
