GEICO Associates and GEICO Philanthropic Join Forces to Donate $185,000 to Children’s National Medical Center

WASHINGTON--It was a record-breaking fundraising year for GEICO, as associates at the company’s headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md., and those is in Fredericksburg, Va., and the Tower Oaks office in Rockville, Md., joined forces with GEICO’s Philanthropic Foundation to donate $185,000 to the Children’s National Medical Center.

Associates, led by campaign chairs Bill Fabian and Sylvia Francis, developed unique events throughout the entire month of July, including silent and live auctions, art shows, car washes, water balloon battles and rock band competitions to break last year’s record contribution. Alone, associates raised $129,000.

Vice President of Public Affairs Rynthia Rost, and Chairman of the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation Don Lyons presented the check to Barbara Schroeder, director of the Children’s National Medical Center’s Corporate and Foundation Relations during a presentation at the company's headquarters on Sept. 2.

“GEICO’s contributions helps us say ‘yes’ to parents in our community, regardless of their ability to pay for their child’s treatment,” said Schroeder. “GEICO not only helps us save lives, but preserve the quality of life for the children that come through our doors.”

GEICO also announced it will expand its more than 30-year partnership with Children’s National Medical Center by sponsoring the new GEICO Workplace Giving Corporate Challenge. The challenge will give GEICO the opportunity to cultivate 12 new corporate partners that will hold monthly campaigns throughout the year to benefit the hospital.

“This new initiative will provide us an opportunity to support other workplace giving programs and help ratchet up their giving to the hospital programs,” said Lyons.
