AAA Chicago: September Fuel Prices Decrease as Fall Looms
AURORA, Ill.--Fuel prices have decreased during the last month in Illinois and northern Indiana, giving more relief to consumers as fall draws near. AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 12 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.59 per gallon for the month of September, which is also $1.32 lower per gallon than last year.
“As we head out of the summer travel season and into the fall, gasoline prices have dropped,” says Beth Mosher, AAA Chicago’s spokesperson. “The decreased demand, coupled with a relatively tame hurricane season has brought some additional relief at the pump.”
In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.46, which is down 18 cents from August and down $1.44 from September 2008.
- In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.74, which is down 8 cents from last month and $1.36 lower than last year’s price-per-gallon.
- In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.63 per gallon, which is a 10-cent decrease from August and $1.35 lower than last year.
- In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.60 per gallon, which is 13 cents lower compared to last month and $1.37 lower than September 2008’s price.
- In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.57 per gallon, which is 12 cents lower than last month and down by $1.39 compared to this time last year.
- In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.60 per gallon, which is 11 cents lower than August’s average and $1.36 lower than September 2008’s price.
- In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.62 per gallon, which is 10 cents lower compared to last month and $1.34 lower compared to last year.
- In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.54 per gallon, a decrease of 14 cents from August and a decrease of $1.28 from last year.
- In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.51 per gallon, which is 8 cents lower than last month and $1.27 lower than last year.
- In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.50 per gallon, which is a 16-cent decrease compared to last month and a $1.25 decrease from September 2008.
- In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.52 per gallon, which is 16 cents lower than last month and $1.31 lower than last year.
- In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.62 per gallon, a decrease of 5 cents from July and a decrease of $1.25 from September 2008.
- In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.38 per gallon, which is a decrease of 17 cents from last month and $1.37 lower than September 2008’s price.
- In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.48 per gallon, a 16-cent decrease from August’s average and a $1.44 decrease from a year ago.
- In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.43 per gallon, which is 22 cents lower than last month and $1.48 lower than last year.
- In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.45 per gallon, which is 16 cents lower compared to last month and $1.34 lower compared to last year.
