While the fun will be brewing on and off the track, many drivers, teams, fans and crews honor the memory of a dear friend, James Garrison. Born in Habersham County on June 1, 1952, he was raised and raced in Cornelia, Georgia in the Mud Creek area. While attending high school, he found his passion for cars as he worked his way to pursue a career in frame and body work, sell used cars, raised chickens, and help anyone that needed his assistance, or a great laugh along the way. Walker’s Frame Shop opened in 1976 with Garrison leading the way, later known as Garrison’s Used Cars. While opening his first business he kept his passion alive while racing his dirt car on many local North Georgia dirt tracks and in 1980, asked the love of his life, Gail, for her hand in marriage. In 1984 Garrison helped his fellow racers and opened up Garrison Racing Equipment with his wife Gail, daughter Crystal and son Cale.
Garrison Racing Equipment can be seen every Saturday night in the pits at Lanier National Speedway carrying on the tradition that James built. Moving forward, Gail, Crystal and Cale look to keep Garrison Racing Equipment in the same location that James built, a place where everyone can enjoy themselves while catering to the racing world and keeping a family environment.
Although this will be the final NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division point’s weekend, Lanier National Speedway, along with the Georgia Asphalt Series will keep the remainder of the 2009 calendar season packed.
