NOTES
Martin Truex Jr. and No. 1 Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Boats Team
Richmond History: Martin Truex Jr. will make his eighth Sprint Cup
Series start at Richmond International Raceway this weekend. In seven
prior starts at the track Truex has an average starting position of 14.6
and an average finishing position of 23.9. His best finish came in May
of 2008 when he took the checkered flag in fifth position. Truex has led
22 laps at the .750 mile oval. Earlier this season, Truex was relegated
to a 22nd-place finishing position after spending 307 of 400 laps inside
the top-15 and taking home an average running position of 10th. Truex
would also lead 22 laps, but a late-race incident caused damage to his
No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevy and the team would have to settle for a
22nd-place finish.
Atlanta Weekend: Truex started off the two-day race weekend by bringing
home his second Pole Award of the 2009 season and the first for Guitar
Hero during qualifying at Atlanta Motor Speedway by posting a lap of
30.106. As the green flag dropped, Truex quickly showed that his
winning the Pole wasn't a fluke. He would go on to lead a race high, 68
laps and continue to race well inside the top-10 for the first one-third
of the race. However, on lap 131 the No. 1 Guitar Hero(r) 5 Chevrolet
came down pit road in seventh position and struggled with lug nut
problems during the stop. Truex would come out 15th, and after taking
the green flag would start to lose ground quickly reporting that the car
was becoming increasingly loose. The team would continue to fight hard
for the remainder of the evening to get back on the lead lap. However,
it wasn't in the cards for Truex and the No.1 Guitar Hero 5 team as they
would eventually finish the 500-mile event one lap down in 26th
position.
Bass Pro Shops Returns: The familiar colors of Johnny Morris's Bass Pro
Shops will return to the No. 1 Chevrolet this weekend at Richmond. The
race marks Bass Pro's 22nd race of the 2009 season. Fans should be sure
to visit the Ashland, Va. store located just outside of Richmond at
11550 Lakeridge, Parkway for all of their tailgating and camping needs.
Nationwide Racing for Two-Time Champion: Truex will return to the
NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) to drive the No.1 Chevrolet entry for
Phoenix Racing in Friday night's Nationwide Series Race at Richmond
International Raceway. The start will mark Truex's sixth NNS start at
the Virginia race track. Truex has an average starting position of 8.8
and an average finishing position of 21.2. His best finish came in
Sept. of 2004 when he took the checkered flag in third position. Truex
has led 11 laps at the .750 mile oval in the NNS.
In the Points: Truex and the No. 1 Chevrolet dropped one spot in the
NSCS standings to the 24th position.
