Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance Takes Place September 12 And 13

Event to Feature Cars of the John W. Rich Collection, Pennsylvania Motorsports Heritage, and Vintage Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

MALVERN, Pa., Sept. 8 -- If your interests include superb collector cars from the early 20th Century, Pennsylvania auto racing history and vintage motorcycles, this year's Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance is a "must see" event. The concours d'elegance will showcase cars from the collection of John W. Rich, a tribute to Pennsylvania motorsports and a selection of vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles. A display of vintage coaches and carriages makes a return appearance at this year's event.

"We are pleased to feature several outstanding cars from the collection of John W. Rich," said Michael G. Tillson III, chairman, Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance, "The show field will also have an elite representation of significant cars from Pennsylvania racing history, along with vintage models from iconic motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson. The 2009 event will once again include a display of vintage coaches and carriages that illustrate the evolution of transportation."

The Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance encompasses two days of activities beginning with the Saturday morning Road Rally, sponsored by Devon Hill BMW, through the scenic countryside of Chester County. The Saturday night party, sponsored by Wilkie Lexus and Lexus of Chester Springs, will feature Latin-themed food and drink, the music of Brazilian band Minas and a silent auction to benefit charity.

Each year, the concours event, an invitation-only show, has a featured marque, a vehicle type or coachbuilder and a motorcycle make. The 2009 event will feature a selection of significant cars from Pennsylvania collector John W. Rich, whose cars have graced the Radnor Hunt show field in past years.

Included in the selection are a 1910 American Underslung Traveler, a 1915 Simplex Crane and a 1926 Packard Model 326 Roadster. The show will also feature cars from Pennsylvania racing history, including a 1921 Duesenberg 183 Grand Prix Race Car, a 1954 Hillegass Sprint Car and a 1984 Porsche 962 driven by local favorite, Al Holbert. The motorcycle division will showcase American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson, one of which is a 1910 model 95A which features a flat leather belt drive, along with a number of other vintage motorcycles including a 1953 Norton Manx Model 30M 500cc.

The concours event, also known as the 100 Motor Cars of Radnor Hunt, takes place on the grounds of Radnor Hunt, outside Philadelphia in rural Malvern, Pennsylvania, a beautiful setting for an event of this type. The one hundred vehicles are carefully picked by the car selection committee to ensure that the field of entrants is best representative of the featured marque or vehicle type. The motorcycle committee also selects the proposed entrants based on originality and rarity of that model. This year will be the return appearance of vintage horse-drawn carriages and coaches at the concours d'elegance to illustrate the evolution of both transportation and coachwork. The carriages will process from the grounds of The Devon Horse Show to Radnor Hunt on Sunday morning, and be on display during the afternoon of the concours.

Attendance at last year's event was the best ever, with over 3,500 who came to view the exceptional vehicles assembled. Proceeds from the event benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Philadelphia. The mission of United Cerebral Palsy of Philadelphia and Vicinity (UCP) is to positively affect the quality of life for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.
