Shanghai, September 7 (Gasgoo.com) China's Ministry of Environmental
Protection (MEP) is setting up National Emission Standard V on new cars and
petrol and diesels fuels, ministry official said.
Mr. Ren Hongyan, Director of Air Pollution and Noise Control Division of
MEP, said at "2009 International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry
Development" over the weekend that "we are setting new fuel emissions
standards and may launch a new law on Air Pollution Control next year."
Ren added that State Administration of Taxation and the Finance Ministry are
also considering levying a car emission tax in future. The National Emission
Standard V is expected to be published by 2015, according to him.
The MEP published a ban on September 1 on petrol vehicles below National
Emission Standard I to travel on Beijing roads.
China's National Emission Standard I, which is equivalent to Euro I
standard, allows an average petrol sedan to emit a maximum of 2.7 grams of
carbon monoxide a kilometer among its other exhausts, whereas Standard IV
requires less than 1 gram of carbon monoxide and 0.08 gram of nitrogen oxide
a kilometer.
