West Lebanon, NY: Howard Commander’s Lebanon Valley Speedway hosted the final nights of points for both the Modifieds and the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Modified Super Series divisions. As a subtle homage to the Valley of Speed, the pit area was filled to the brim with cars in every division instead of water, like just a few short weeks ago.

For Andy Bachetti, the only thing better than winning another Point Title in the toughest division at the legendary high banks, is capping off the year with a win! And it just so happened that Conklin Limestone and Royal’s Garage put up an extra $3,000 to win for the JH Financial 30 lap feature event.

Early on in the feature the #2 of Donnie Ackner took command of the field and seemed quite comfortable out front. But the stacked field was not going to let Ackner get too far away. Donnie Corellis, Eddie Marshall, Kenny Tremont Jr, and Brett Hearn were stuck back mid-pack trying to get a clear run to the front and challenge Ackner for the win.

Tremont’s night did not go as planned as an ill handling car kept him from running near the front. While Marshall quietly picked his way up to another top 10 finish. But up front, Brian Berger dialed his #60 in on the #2 and began to challenge. Finally, by lap 20 on the Kokosa Oil Inc lap counter, Berger cleared Ackner and began to pull away.

But all good things must come to an end, at least for Berger, as the battle between Hearn and Bachetti finally yielded a winner.

The #34B of Bachetti put it high, wide and handsome, swung by Berger to take over the lead on lap 25. A few short cautions finally slowed the field, but nobody had anything for the #34B as Andy Bachetti scored his 4th win of 2009 while capping off his 2nd Modified Point Championship.

Brian Berger had to settle for 2nd, followed by Brett Hearn, Kyle Sheldon, and Ryan Larkin to round out the top 5 finishers.

As a side note, Eddie Marshall captured the 4 race title of “King of the Track” and the $4,000 payday.

His night was not over yet though, as the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series needed to complete their point chase as well. The 24 lap feature event started off with Dave Baranowski Jr out front, but only for about ½ a lap as Steve Hough drove around the #112B in turn 2 and took over command. Caution flew on lap 3 for the #68 of Art Collins as he made hard contact with the outside front stretch wall, ending his night early.

Hough darted out front on the restart and just sailed away. At the end of 2 dozen laps, Steve Hough’s #34H got the checkers with Matt Quinn finishing 2nd. Brett Hearn had to settle for 3rd, while Andy Bachetti and Kenny Tremont Jr rounded out the top 5.

And with that 4th place finish, Andy Bachetti doubled down and came up aces as he scores the 2009 Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series High Point Championship!

The packed night of racing wasn’t even close to finishing as the LV Budget Sportsman took to the valley of speed for their 20 lap feature event. In control of the top spot was the X of Jake Jelley at the drop of the green.

By lap 7 the #9M of Anthony Montessi took over the lead from Jelley. But again, that was short lived as the #1 of Jason Harrington took the high side past Montessi and took command of the field on lap 11.

That was pretty much the end of the show as Harrington took his 4th win of 2009. Don Miller was 2nd, followed by Montessi, Kevin Ward, and Peter Carlotto to close out the top 5.

The regular Sportsman division followed with their 20 lap feature as well. But this one was pretty much over before it started as several cautions flew to slow the field, but it only delayed the inevitable, as the #00 of Kevin Petrucci scored his first career win. Leading flag to flag, Petrucci scored the win with Neil Stratton closing in to finish 2nd, followed by Frank Harper, Brett Haas, and Danny Sanchez rounding out the top 5.

The Pro Stocks were marred in their own point battle that saw the top 5 in points still within arms reach of title contention. But all eyes were on Robbie Speed and Jay Corbin with just 6 points separating them in the hunt. Brian Keough decided he would spoil the party and took the lead early in the 20 lap affair.

The #311 was out front early with a steady lead, as the contenders for the title were carefully maneuvering through the field to get as many points as possible. The handling on the #311 of Keough began to evaporate as the #17 of Nick Hilt took over the lead on lap 14. After 2 more cautions that slowed the field, Hilt continued out front, and took his first win of 2009.

Kevin Arnold powered his way into 2nd, 3rd was Jay Corbin, 4th Rick Dempsey, and 5th was Robbie Speed. With his 5th place finish, and the fact that next weeks event will feature a DIRT event; Robbie Speed clinched the 2009 Pro Stock High Point Championship! Chuck Towslee captured the Limited Pro Stock win.

The 6th Annual Boomer’s Performance Classic saw the #14 of Al Relyea take control early and leave the field in his dust to capture the trophy and the $100 payday.

Earlier in the night, the Pure Stocks had their feature events, and the winners were: PS#1 - Brian Vandenburgh, PS#2 - Ray Hall Sr, and in PS#3 - Ed Hatch.

Congratulations to all the 2009 High Point Champions crowned so far! Next Saturday marks the official end of the 57th Season at the legendary Lebanon Valley Speedway. $1,000 is on the line in the Sportsman division along with thee fact that it is thee final night of points. Also on tap with be a special DIRT Tour Pro Stock race, Limited Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, the Accord/LV Budget Sportsman, 4 cylinders, and a season ending 20 lap Pure Stock event.
