West Lebanon, NY: The legendary high banks at Lebanon Valley Speedway was under the gun from mother nature this past Saturday night, as threatening skies but the entire program in jeopardy. With the true race fans flocking to the grandstands, the racing got underway without a drop of rain to slow it down.
KeyBank and Curtis Hill Modular Homes presented the nights action at the Valley of Speed, as the mighty big block Modifieds took to the speedway for their 30 lap feature event. At the drop of the green, Brian Berger charged out to the early lead and began to steadily pull away.
Deep in the field, the stacked field of front runners were darting through traffic on the super fast and slick track. Andy Bachetti, Guy Sheldon, Keith Flach, Mark Flach Jr, and a guy named Kenny Tremont Jr were all weaving through the field to get to the front of the class.
Caution flew on lap 13 when contact between Tremont’s #115 and Kyle Sheldon’s #518 on the front stretch slowed Sheldon’s ride and forced him pitside with suspension issues. Brian Berger’s #60 was still in control of the field on the restart with Tremont and Mark Flach Jr in tow.
Unfortunately for Berger, his night can to a sudden end when mechanical issued forced the #60 to the pit on lap 15. That handed over the top spot to Tremont with Mark Flach and Keith Flach staying glued to his rear deck.
But once the green flag flew, the red #115 was gone. Keith Flach’s #43 moved into 2nd by lap 18, but didn’t have anything for the #115. Tremont scores his 3rd win of 2009, with Keith Flach crossing the line 2nd. Donnie Corellis charged into 3rd, followed by Mark Flach Jr, and Eddie Marshall rounded out the top 5.
Canaan Auto Parts put up $800 for s special 20 lap Pro Stock feature event. Victor Hopkins stole the lead at the drop of the green, but the field was slowed early as contact between the #17 of Nick Hilt and the #78 of Paul LaRochelle gave th #78 a flat tire bringing out the caution.
Hopkin’s #243 took off early again but the #322 of Jay Casey took over the top spot by lap 3 with the #324 of Jason Casey in tow. Lap 6 on the Kokosa Oil Inc lap counter saw the #24 of Robbie Speed slow with engine problems.
But the green remained out as Jay Casey and Jason Casey ran away with the show. But at the end, the old man outlasted the young gun, as Jay Casey scored his 2nd win of ’09 and the $800 payday from Canaan Auto. Jason Casey was 2nd, followed by Kevin Arnold, Mike Middleton, and Victor Hopkins to round out the top 5.
Chuck Towslee scores another Limited Pro Stock win. In the Vintage Modified feature, Rob Rowe drove his vintage 1960’s Modified #17 to the 10 lap win.
The Sportsman took to the valley of speed for their 20 lap feature event with the #55 of Brett Haas in control early in the feature. Chad Pierce and Kevin Petrucci were hot on his heals early, but faded with handling issues.
The #11A of Kyle Armstrong had a full head of steam coming to the front, and the #55 didn’t have a chance as Armstrong charged on by and took over the lead by lap 10. Haas was under pressure for 2nd from the #98 of Kolby Shroder and the #16 of Kyle Hoffman, but Hoffman slowed by lap 15 with mechanical issues. But Schroder was on the move, and took over 2nd.
But he had nothing for Armstrong, as the #11A scored his first of 2009. Schroder crossed the line 2nd followed by Brett Haas, Neil Stratton, and Danny Sanchez completed the top 5.
In the Pure Stock division, the winners were Scott Kilmer in PS#1, in PS#2 it was John Devine, while in PS#3 Jeff Kreutziger took the win. Also on tap were the 4 cylinders, as Robert Gibson Jr bagged the win in the Single Cam class, and Steven Loomis won the Dual Cam class.
Next Saturday night marks the end of the points for the both the big block Modifieds and the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series. JH Financial Present final night of points for the Modifieds and 358’s, also with a special Royal’s Garage and Conklin Limestone $3,000 to win 30 lap Big Block feature.
