BAULKHAM HILLS, AUSTRALIA - August 27, 2009: The European specification new generation Subaru Legacy, known in Australia as Liberty, has achieved a top five-star crashworthiness rating.

The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) awarded the five-star rating after testing the left-hand drive Legacy 2.0D wagon.

The Model Year 2010 Liberty is due to be launched in Australia in early September.

This year Euro NCAP introduced a stringent new combined safety performance test that evaluates four criteria: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist.

Euro NCAP is an independent agency organized by transport authorities in European countries. It has awarded the automotive safety rating since 1997.

Local testing results of Australian specification Liberty and Outback, conducted by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), are due to be announced in the near future.

Currently, the entire Subaru range shares a five-star ANCAP rating for occupant safety.
