Austin Reed Impact Hard Charger award winner

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COTO DE CAZA, California --

Austin Reed, 15 year old driver of the #14 Approved Memory, Kalgard, K&N
Filters, Ringers Gloves, (RBP) Rolling Big Power, Vitamin Water Legend
car, competing at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, has had an
up-and-down year as he makes the transition from dirt to pavement
racing. Austin is getting this pavement racing figured out as was
demonstrated Saturday night at Irwindale where he won the Impact Hard
Charger award. This recognition, his third, is presented to the driver
who passes the most cars during the race.

The night would prove to be challenging with Austin set to start 24th
out of 30 cars. He shared that is qualifying run was "not as good as
expected, the fields have been getting bigger and stronger every weekend
here." With a decision made earlier in the day by the Race Director to
increase the Legend race laps from 35 to 50 the field was lined up and
ready to go. It was during the first few parade laps that a misstep by
Austin's Dad was discovered whereby the hood of his car was not securely
fastened. This forced Austin to come off the track for the correction
that was made just as the race was to go green causing him to re-enter
the field starting dead last in the 30th position. Determined to make
the best of his night, Austin did not waste any time setting out on a
torrid pace and ultimately passing 20 cars.

Austin shared his thoughts from the night "I had a lot of fun out there,
at times I raced with a lot of cars 2 and 3 wide. This race track is
very hard to get a handle on, but once you do it is a ton of fun. I
told my Dad prior to the race it will be hard to get up there from where
I am starting but if I could just win the Hard Charger Award that would
be cool. I'm working on one more to get that new Impact helmet I want.
The car really came alive and allowed me to drive the way it should be
and running the correct line around the track. Irwindale is such a flat
race track you have to be really smooth on and off the gas and brakes.
My car really works well on the bottom but I can also run the top pretty
well. I seemed to really be good coming off turn four, where I could
get back to the gas and get a good run going down into turn one and
making the pass. We had a few cautions with only 5 laps to go and it
started to get crazy out there." With one lap to go Austin was in 11th
place two cars behind the 51 car, "I just ran a smooth line and got the
jump again off turn four and the drag race was on to the checkered."
Austin was able to edge out the 51 car at the line for tenth place finish.

Austin is currently in 5th place in the traveling National points in the
Young Lions Division. He is 83rd overall in Young Lions out of 213
drivers and in the top 20 at Irwindale Speedway with 3 Hard Charger
Awards this year.

Austin Reed is 15 years old and in 10th grade attending Frontier High
