Tangle stoles Alvaro Parente a podium finish
23rd August, 2009
Lady luck didn't want anything with Alvaro Parente today, after being hit by Edoardo Mortara when he was third, something that prevented him of being in podium for the second time this season.
After the good fourth place attained yesterday, the Ocean Racing Technology driver started today's race from fifth, which gave him a good chance for another good result. He reacted very well to the starting lights, but a big mess in front of him sent him to the sixth place.
Without giving up, the Portuguese driver reached the third place, and started to put Sergio Perez, who would be second at the end of the race, under pressure. However, in the beginning of the fifth lap, Edoardo Mortara, in a wild maneuver, took the blue and black car out in the first corner, forcing Alvaro Parente to retire, while the Italian driver would escape with a drive-through penalty. "The podium was there for us, our car was very well balanced, though an annoying vibration under braking, and I was attacking Sergio Perez. However, Edoardo Mortara forgot to brake to the first corner and put me out, preventing us of achieving the result that was in our reach", said with anger Alvaro Parente.
With a podium today, the twenty-four years old driver would be in the Championship top-ten, something that makes even more difficult to accept this morning race outcome. But Alvaro Parente is already thinking in the next round of the season that will be held next weekend. "It's very frustrating to end a race in this way: retiring without doing anything for that, mainly, when a place in the podium was there for us. Sometimes, the races are like this. I could have recovered some places in the Championship, but yesterday we showed what we are capable of and now we have to look to the Spa-Francorchamps event", reminded the driver supported by Soccerade, Delta, TMN, Aurora Group, Geotur and Cision.
