Line Will Roll Off Fourth in Reading
Â
Event: Â Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals
Location: Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, Pennsylvania
Day/Date: Saturday, August 22, 2009
Â
A wet racetrack, whether from rain falling from the sky or seeping up from the ground, was again the primary story during the second day of qualifying at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals in Reading, PA. First, the start of the day’s activities was delayed by almost five hours as NHRA officials fought to stop the “weepersâ€??? at the top end of the track, while a rain storm forced the cancellation of the fourth and final session at Maple Grove Raceway, leaving competitors with only one Saturday attempt to make Sunday’s final eliminations field.Â
Â
After virtually ensuring the fourth starting spot on Friday with a solid 6.689-second, 206.35 mph pass, Jason Line and the Summit Racing Pro Stock Pontiac crew looked to use Saturday’s run to fine-tune their set-up for race day. At first, it seemed they would be deprived of the opportunity, as the car did not immediately start. However, quick action by the KB Racing team got the car running, producing a competitive 6.712-second, 205.66 mph pass, providing the team with valuable information on the constantly changing track.
Â
“I was just trying to make things exciting,?? joked Line afterwards. “Seriously, we had some s
ort of electrical malfunction, which was a strange feeling, as I’ve never had that happen before.  Knowing we might not have another chance to make a run in qualifying, it was really important to get the problem fixed, and fortunately, the Summit Racing crew was able to get the car started. Once we got back to the pits, we didn’t take any chances, replacing all the parts that might be the problem.Â
Â
“Although it would have been nice to get another run, I think we’re in good shape for tomorrow. We have a good starting spot, and as long as the driver and crew do their jobs, we should have as good a chance as anyone to get this Summit Pontiac in the winner’s circle, and we’re going to do whatever it takes to make that happen.??
