Anderson Earns the Second Spot in Rain-Abbreviated Reading Qualifying

Event:  Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals

Location: Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, Pennsylvania

Day/Date: Saturday, August 22, 2009

For the second consecutive day, inclement weather cut short qualifying at the Toyo Tires Nationals in Reading, PA, with the professional categories making only one of their scheduled two Saturday attempts at Maple Grove Raceway.   Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team were once again among the top performers in the 22-car Pro Stock field, using their single run to post a quick 6.698-second time as well as the fastest speed of the day at 206.64 mph.

However, his 6.679-second effort from Friday remained his run of record, earning the three-time champion the second starting position, marking the seventh consecutive year he had earned a Top Two starting spot in the Keystone State.  Despite this solid performance, Anderson regretted the loss of the fourth and final session, as he looked to further improve his performance.

“We can’t seem to get any track time here in Reading, although it’s the same for everybody,?? said Anderson.  “The track is very tricky, and is the biggest variable we have to deal with this weekend.  It was actually worse today than yesterday after getting all that rain on it.  We went a little overboard thinking it=2
0would be better than it was and we missed on the set-up a little bit.

“We would have really liked to have made another run, but now it looks like we’re going to have to roll the dice and make a couple changes going into the first round tomorrow.  We’re not going to stray too far from home, obviously, but we’re going to try to make the moves that will make it right, just like we would have in the fourth qualifying session.  We’ll go off of that data, adjusting for whatever track and atmospheric conditions we get.

“I’m still very confident, because even though we’re not making good runs, we’re making decent runs, going down the track every time, and I’ve still got a really good hot rod in this Summit Racing Pontiac.  It’s not that I’m disappointed it’s just that you always want to make that perfect run, which we haven’t done yet this weekend.  Hopefully we can do it tomorrow.??
