Strong race gives Alvaro Parente the 4th place
22nd August, 2009
Alvaro Parente achieved a good fourth place in the first GP2 race of the European Formula 1 Grand Prix program, after a charging showing.
It was expected a tough race for the Ocean Racing Technology driver, since that the neck injury that he suffered in yesterday's practice was still giving him some pain. But, as it is usually in him, he put behind all the difficulties and launched himself for a notable race.
The Portuguese driver started well, and was fifth in the first corner, after overtaking Roldan Rodriguez in the way to the first corner. Lucas di Grassi was in sights but, during his pit-stop, he lost a position for the Piquet GP driver, something that didn't let him down.
Roldan Rodriguez began to suffer an intense pressure from Alvaro Parente and eventually made a mistake, letting pass the driver from Oporto, who started to look to Lucas di Grassi, immediately. The Brazilian, a very experienced driver, handle well the Ocean Racing Technology driver pressure but, with three laps to go, the Racing Engineering driver felt hydraulic problems in his car and Alvaro Parente was able to grab the fourth place. "I couldn't do much more than this! We didn't have the pace for the two fastest drivers and, in this track, it's very hard to overtake. I was able to gain a place with the Roldan Rodriguez mistake and to get another with Lucas di Grassi problems. My neck still hurts me a bit, but that didn't prevent me from attacking during all race. The fourth place is a good result, if we look at the circumstances", admitted the driver supported by Soccerade, Delta, TMN, Aurora Group, Geotur and Cision.
After the five points conquered today, Alvaro Parente looks at the Sunday's race with confidence and wants to score another good result. "I'll start tomorrow from the fifth place and it will be very important to have a good start. I'll attack again until the chequered flag, but without mistakes, and with this approach I hope to achieve another good result", said the twenty-four years old driver.
