Santa Fe Springs, August, 22, 2009: Every August, the Monterey peninsula is overrun with the fastest, most exotic and rarest racing machines in the world for the annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. On August 15, Mark Hotchkis drove the Hotchkis/Lifeline Wynn’s 1986 Porsche 962 to victory against a field of historic racecars including a 1994 Kremer-Porsche Spyder K8 driven by ALMS racer Gunnar Jeanette (2nd), another 962 driven by Rudy Junco (3rd) and Patrick Dempsey in a Mazda RX-792P (4th).
“I’m thrilled that we were able to put on a great show at such an important event,” Hotchkis says. “The last modification we made to the car before shipping it to Monterey was the addition of a Lifeline Zero 2000 system, and knowing I was protected at 10/10ths allowed me to push the car as hard as possible on the track. It was a fantastic weekend and I’m grateful to Steve Earle and his organization for allowing us to be a part of it.”
The Hotchkis Racing Wynn’s Porsche 962 was campaigned by the Hotchkis Racing Team in the IMSA Camel GTP challenge from 1986 to 1991. The competition included GTP cars from Nissan, Toyota, Jaguar, Ford and numerous other Porsche 962 teams. The principle drivers were John Hotchkis Sr. and Jr. They enjoyed great success at many events including the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and many other Camel/GTP races throughout the United States. Former Team Kool Green driver and Firestone Indy Lights race winner, Mark Hotchkis, joined the Hotchkis Racing Team for its foray into the intensely competitive world of HSR historic sports car racing.
