Anderson Plays it Safe in Reading, Slots Second on Friday

Mother Nature continued to play a major role in the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, as rain at Maple Grove Raceway delayed the start of qualifying for the Toyo Tires Nationals and eventually curtailed Friday’s action to a single early-evening session. Taking full advantage of the opportunity, Summit Racing Pontiac racer Greg Anderson powered through the quarter-mile in 6.679 seconds with a top speed of 207.11 mph to sit second midway through qualifying.  As Anderson explained, having seen the uncertain forecast, the KB Racing brain trust had chosen to play it safe, ensuring their participation in Sunday’s final eliminations.    

 

“Our Summit Racing Pontiac actually made a pretty nice run, although we were a little too conservative on the set-up,�?? said Anderson.  “With all the rain we had today, you wonder how much moisture is in the racetrack.  Looking at the forecast, you also don’t know if you’re going to get one qualifying run or four.   The bottom line is that you’re afraid to get after it, so we stayed on the safe side with all three cars, and it was still a good day.  

 

“We’re qualified second, Jason is four
th and the third car is sixth, while several other cars didn’t make it off the starting line, so we’re confident we made the right decision.  Besides, we know the easy way to make them better.  Hopefully we’ll get a couple attempts tomorrow to fine tune them and make them fast and get them ready for race day.�??
