CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA – August 19, 2009: The peak body representing the Australian automotive industry, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), has urged the Federal Opposition not to delay or frustrate the passage of legislation establishing a crucial element of the Federal Government’s New Car Plan for a Greener Future; the Automotive Transformation Scheme.

“Now is not the time for political opportunism,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

“Tens of thousands of automotive jobs, as well as vital investment decisions are dependent on the support of this crucial legislation,” he said.

“The legislation will provide the industry with the confidence to invest in new technologies and support the development of lower emission and greener vehicles in Australia,” Mr McKellar said.

“Any delay will cause unnecessary uncertainty and concern,” he said.
