Eddie Marshall Finally Sees Victory Lane, Hoffman Takes Limestone Shootout

West Lebanon, NY: Hot Summer Night racing at the Valley of Speed was in full force this past Saturday night. The heat was not only in the air, but in the racing on the legendary high banks!

Saxton Signs and Snap On Tools presented the 1st round of the Modified King of the Track 30 lap feature event. On the front of the field was Eddie Marshall’s #98 and the #39 of Ryan Larkin. At the drop of the green, Marshall took control of the field early while the #14 of Lorne Browe darted into 2nd.

The #98 began to pull away from the field putting a significant distance between himself and the #14 of Browe. Kenny Tremont’s #115 slowed by lap 10 with drive train issues.

In the wake of Marshall’s lead, Andy Bachetti, Brian Berger, Keith Flach and Guy Sheldon were making their wake to the front of the class to make a run at Marshall. But as the Kokosa Oil In lap counter clicked lap15, caution flew for heavy contact between the #43 of Flach and the #60 of Berger as they came to rest against the outside turn 1 wall.

On the restart, Marshall was once again out front, in control and pulling away. But the yellow slowed him again on lap 17 as contact between the #57 of Donnie Corellis, the #77J of J.C. Flach, #1 of J.R. Heffner and the #55K of Mike King. King’s night was done, while the rest continued with some damage.

Marshall sped away again with Browe still in tow. But as the laps ticked away, Browe began to fade, and Sheldon, Bachetti and Steve Hough moved by the #14. With all that racing going on, it was for 2nd place as Eddie Marshall kept his #98 out front for the full 30 laps, scoring his first win of 2009.

Sheldon crossed the line 2nd, followed by Bachetti, Hough, and Hector Stratton raced into the top 5.

A special 20 lap Conklin Limestone $1500 to win Sportsman feature was on tap next. Chris Lynch and Brett Haas brought the field to the green with Lynch taking control early. The caution come out early as two cars collided on the backstretch.

Lynch charged his #09c out front again, holding back an eager field looking for the big payday. But the caution slowed the field again on lap 5 for the #2 of K.C. Goewey in turn 4 and the #83 of Chad Pierce. Chris Lynch still had control of the field until lap 7 as the #16 of Kyle Hoffman took over the top spot from Lynch.

As the #16 began to roll away, the #09c of Lynch got shuffled out of position by the #12 of Brian Sandstedt, but the #63 of Danny Sanchez and the #87 made heavy contact with each other and Lynch, landing the #09c in the outside wall, ending his night.

On the start, Hoffman once again pulled away, and never looked back, as the race continued without a caution for the rest of the 20 laps. Hoffman takes the win and the $1,500 from Conklin Limestone. Sandstedt came home 2nd, followed by a hard charging Jeff Watson, Kolby Schroeder, and Frank Harper came back to finish 5th.

The Budget Sportsman took to the speedway for a 20 lap feature event as well. The #250X of Lisa Schoonmaker had control early, but gave way to the #7 of Michael Sabia. A late race charge by the #1 of Jason Harrington wasn’t gonna keep Sabia from Victory lane.

Herrington crossed the line 2nd, followed by Don Miller, John Odendahl, and Kevin Ward to complete the top 5.

The Pro Stocks were up next for a 20 lap shoot out. Jeff Kelmel brought the field to the green with the #35 of Rick Dempsey but the caution flew again on lap 1 with contact between the #78 of Paul LaRochelle and the #324 of Jason Casey. Dempsey took over the top spot on the restart, but the #8 of Jay Corbin was making quick time and made a bonsai move under Dempsey and took over the top spot.

There was no one else that was gonna get to Corbin, as the #8 scored another win. Dempsey held on for 2nd, Nick Hilt charged into 3rd, Victory Hopkins raced into 4th, relegating the #12 of Matt Shadic to 5th.

Cord Becker scores the Limited Pro Stock win. In Pure Stock #1 Rich Douglass took the win, in Pure Stock #2 Bob Palmer took the win, while in Pure Stock #3 Ray Hall Jr survived to take the win.

Dougherty Brothers Construction will present the show for next Saturday night for Public Safety Night. All public safety officials get for FREE with ID! Round 2 of the Modified king of the Track will be accompanied by the 4 cylinders and the rest for the regular Saturday events.

Then, it’s the return on Mr. DIRT Track USA since last run in 2005! Budweiser and Hoosier Racing Tires Present the 100 lap Super DIRTCar Series 100 lap feature with an unprecedented $17,500 to the winner!
