Line Steps Up, Will Start Fourth in Brainerd

Event:  Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals

Location: Brainerd International Raceway, Brainerd, Minnesota

Day/Date: Saturday, August 15, 2009

After placing sixth on the first day of qualifying at the Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, MN Jason Line knew he and his Summit Racing team would need to improve their race car in order to put themselves in contention for Sunday’s final eliminations.  Further complicating their assignment was the changing weather at Brainerd International Raceway, which saw temperatures drop by almost twenty degrees prior to the third qualifying session, followed by rain which would eventually cancel the fourth and final qualifying session.  Undeterred, the KB Racing crew took full advantage of their single opportunity, stepping up with a 6.722-second, 204.91 mph pass to claim the fourth starting position.

“We definitely made progress today,?? said Line. “It wasn’t a great run, but it was certainly better than what we ran yesterday, and it gives us a good starting spot for tomorrow.  It would have been nice to get that fourth qualifying session in, because I believe we could have moved up, but it was the same situation for everyone.

“Hopefully, our Summit Racing Pontiac will be good enough tomorrow that if I let out the clutch on time, we can put it in the winner’s c
ircle, which, considering Brainerd is my home track, would be the most fun I will have had in my career, and we’re going to do our best to make it happen.??

Line’s other racing assignment, piloting a car for a friend in Stock Eliminator, came to an end on Saturday with a red-light start in the second round.  Even so, he enjoyed the opportunity to once again race in the same category as his father, mother and two brothers.

“I might be little rusty at the Stock Eliminator game, but I still enjoyed the experience and hope Peter (car owner Boslovitch) did as well,?? said Line.  “We got to win our class, and I got to beat up on my Dad a bit, so all in all, it was a fun weekend, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to do it.

“It was good to be able to race with my family – it was almost like a flashback.  We started doing this because we were car people who loved muscle cars, and it was fun, just as it is today.  If I wasn’t racing Pro Stock today, I’d be popping wheelies in a Stocker or Super Stocker.  If you’re a car guy, you just can’t get that out of your blood.??

Incidentally, Line and Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson will start their day on Sunday by appearing on the set of the NHRA magazine show RaceDay, which will air from 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. (Eastern) on ESPN2.
