Sitting Sixth, Line Rolls Up His Sleeves in Brainerd

Event:  Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals

Location: Brainerd International Raceway, Brainerd, Minnesota

Date: August 14, 2009

Friday at the Lucas Oil Nationals proved to be a hectic day for Summit Racing Pontiac racer Jason Line.  The Minnesota native started his day balancing media requests with racing in the Stock division, where he was the No. 1 qualifier and used a second round win over his father to advance through class eliminations.

In the afternoon, however, his focus was squarely on his duties with the Summit crew, where he looked to continue his string of strong performances.  Adding to the challenge was the unseasonably high heat and humidity that engulfed Brainerd International Raceway, which robbing power from the naturally-aspirated Pro Stock engines.  Although he was able to make two competitive runs, with his 6.774-second, 203.43 mph best slotting him in the sixth position midway through qualifying, Line was resolute in bettering his performance during one of Saturday’s twin time trials.

“Although I’m not overly pleased with our performance today, I know we can fix it,?? said Line. “We opened with a fairly decent run and made some adjustments for the second session which the car obviously did not like.  Fortunately, we have two more attempts tomorrow which will
allow us to fix whatever’s wrong, and if the forecast is correct, the conditions should be more to our liking, which will work in our favor.

“The bottom line is that we have work to do.  We’ll take the data from both Greg’s (teammate Anderson) and my cars and figure out why my car’s not running as well as it should.  I have full confidence in my Summit Racing crew that we’ll get it figured out by tomorrow and put ourselves in a good position for race day.??
