America’s 911 Foundation Announces the 9th Annual Ride for Support of Active First Responders and Their Families
WASHINGTON--America’s 911 Foundation is announcing today their 9th annual commemorative 911 Motorcycle Ride taking place August 21-22, 2009. The goal of the ride is to remember fallen heroes from the 9/11 attacks and their families, and also to raise funds for the Foundation’s college scholarship program to benefit children of Active First Responders in the EMS, Fire, and Police departments nationwide. This year’s total number of participants is expected at 800 people or more, representing an increase from last year’s Ride.
“We are very excited about this year’s Ride and to be able to continue to support First Responders and their Families with our scholarships,” said Ted Sjurseth, President and Founder of America’s 911 Foundation. “It’s been an honor to be able to create and grow this Foundation and to have gained the support of so many people throughout the years.”
America’s 911 Foundation began in October 2001 by Ted Sjurseth and his wife Lisa following the 9/11 attacks the previous September with the goal in mind to provide support and assistance to those who protect and serve the larger public. The spirit behind the organization’s mission statement, “We Support Those Who Answer The 911 Call,” is reflected in all of the philanthropic initiatives of the Foundation that support this goal, of which the Ride is a large annual part comprised of thousands of supporters and participants. Over the years since its inception, America’s 911 Foundation has raised over $500,000 for Active First Responders and their families.
Participants can join the ride in a variety of locations along the route both days. Stops are in Cumberland, MD; Hagerstown, MD; The Pentagon; Mike’s Famous Harley-Davidson; and Linden, NJ. The Ride ‘under police escort’ will begin on August 21 in Somerset, PA. Fees are tax-deductible as America’s 911 Foundation is a nonprofit organization, and the costs are $100 per bike/driver with $25 extra each for an additional participant.
