August Special Events at the High Banks - LVS 8/12/09
Upcoming Special Appearances/Events at the Valley of Speed
Lebanon Valley Speedway
West Lebanon, NY: In celebration of the 2009 season, this August is packed full of special attractions for all to enjoy. First and formost is the much anticipated return of "Mr. DIRT Track USA" scheduled for Thurseday August 27th, 2009.
"Mr. DIRT Track USA" will once again put up the big dough by paying out $17,500.00 to the winner of the 100 lap event! The Super DIRTCar Series cars and stars will be on tap along with plenty of additional invaders to try and take Howard Commander's big Payday!
Also on tap that night will be an appearance of Ms. Motorsports 2009 Alyssa Sharman.
But, the celebrating starts a little earlier than that, as Hall of Fame Driver Bill Wimble returns to the high banks on Saturday August 22nd on Dougherty Brothers Constuction Night!
Bill Wimble, one of the most successful and admired drivers in the history of New York State racing, will return to Lebanon Valley Speedway to greet friends and fans.
The sixties was a huge era for the Valley of Speed. The track, overflowing with both cars and competitors, was fast gaining a national reputation, especially around its monthly 100-lap Sunday night open competition events. Scores of invaders attacked the high banks, including legends such as Frankie Schneider, Dutch Hoag, Jim Hurtubise, and Bill Wimble.
Wimble, a two time NASCAR national champion, took an especial liking to the Valley in his trademark red, black, and white #33 coupes and coaches. In fact, the ultra-popular star on both dirt and pavement forsook NASCAR in 1968 to join Lebanon’s Saturday night roster full time. He had already accumulated enough points to win the track championship by mid-August when his career ended in a major backstretch collision.
On Saturday the 22nd, Wimble will be available to sign copies of his brand new memoir, I’LL NEVER BE LAST AGAIN. The book, sure to become a racing collector’s item, is a passionate recollection of Bill’s amazing pathways both behind the wheel and in business. It is truly an American success story, full of messages for all of us. It was published by Coastal 181 in Newburyport, MA, the country’s leading publisher of oval track titles.
