MACQUARIE PARK, AUSTRALIA – August 11, 2009: Hyundai Motor Company has posted a 36.6 percent rise in global sales for July compared to the same month last year, moving up the ranks to hold fourth place year to date overall according to global industry figures.

Total overseas sales, including both exports from Korea and sales from overseas plants, rose by 44.5 percent to 201,985 units in July, up from 139,772 units a year earlier, aided by brisk sales of Hyundai’s overseas plants in China, India and Czech Republic, which began its full operation.

Exports from Korea increased 37.2 percent to 82,732 units for the month compared to 2008, while sales from overseas plants increased 50.1 percent to 119,253 units.

Domestic sales in Korea rose 15.4 percent to 60,638 units in July from 52,535 units in 2008. The launch of new products such as the upgraded Santa Fe and Elantra LPI Hybrid model helped sales.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia mirrored the global result for July, moving into fourth position for the first time. Hyundai remains the only top ten marque in Australia to increase both sales and market share in 2009, posting its seventh consecutive month of growth with an increase in July sales of 66%.

“Hyundai results both locally and overseas underline the growing demand for award-winning products coupled with outstanding value,” said Kevin McCann, Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s Director of Sales and Marketing.

Demand for small and medium-sized vehicles in the global market is expected to increase in the second half of 2009. Hyundai Motor Company will respond to the changing market conditions by increasing the supply of vehicles in line with demand and will continue to develop new technologies to meet the ever changing needs of buyers.
