Carson City, NV – 19 year-old Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student
Bobby Hodges earned second and sixth place finishes in Saturday night’s NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series / Westcar Late Model Series twin-44 at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.
Â
“This was
a good night in putting us towards our goals of a top-100 in the NASCAR national standings and
in the running for the Westcar Series title,?? Hodges said.
Â
Hodges
started out the afternoon by qualifying fifth fastest out of a large 22 car
turnout for the races on the one-third mile asphalt oval track.
Â
An
inversion of eight slotted Hodges fourth in the lineup for the first feature. After
moving into third early, Hodges embarked on a race long battle with 16 year-old
Jacob Gomes.
Â
Hodges
finally broke through for second on lap 22 but could not make up the large
margin for the leader and finished second.
Â
The race
earned Hodges the maximum 50 points in the close Westcar points and earned him
42 points for NASCAR competition.
Â
Hodges
started fourth in the second feature after a five car inversion of the first
main event finish. After battling with Gomes again, and running as high as third,
Hodges looked comfortably in position for another top-five.
Â
But
exhaust problems late in the race saw Hodges fall to sixth in the order at the
finish.
Â
The night
gives Hodges seventh place in the Westcar standings, 24 points out of first
with a pair of main events on September 12 left to go.
Â
Hodges
will also compete in the twin feature billing on August 22 to earn valuable
NASCAR points.
Â
Hodges
thanks his crew, sponsors, and parents for all their support throughout his
career.
