Andy Bachetti Doubles Up at a Dry Valley of Speed
Sandstedt and Speed Taste Sweet Victory

West Lebanon, NY: Rewind one week, the Valley of Speed was more like Lake Lebanon as nearly the entire speedway was under nearly 6 feet of water due to a freak summer storm that flooded the valley property. After hundreds of hours of clean up and repair work done by volunteers and staff, the legendary high banks was finally dry and ready to go racing.
Back to the present, Earthworm Equipment and Freihofer’s Baking Company presented a full night of racing action that included the return of the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series and the a 20 lap Pure Stock Shoot Out.
But before that could be run, the mighty big block Modifieds took to the valley of speed. Ryan Larkin and Hector Stratton took the field to top speed as the green flag flew. Stratton’s #87 took off for the early lead with the #14 of Lorne Browe looking to run him down.
By lap 6 Browe’s #14 slowed with mechanical issues and was done for the night. The action back in the field was hot and heavy as Kenny Tremont Jr, Eddie Marshall, Brian Berger, and Andy Bachetti were making their way through the field to get to Stratton’s spot up front.
By lap 12 Bachetti’s #34 powered into the runner-up position behind the #87. On lap 21 saw Bachetti finally get by Stratton on a restart, after the #60 of Brian Berger exploded a power plant, bringing out the caution flag. The #34B powered out front and began to pull away from everyone else.
But the huge lead he built up evaporated on lap #27 as Marshall’s #98 suffered a left rear flat, and the #64 of Donnie Ackner erupted a power plant on the backstretch.
That put the #115 of Tremont right on the back deck of Bachetti for a 3 lap shootout. At the green, Tremont immediately dove under Bachetti to try and wrestle the lead away, but Bachetti’s high groove was just fast enough to stay ahead by a half a car.
Every lap was another dive bomb by Tremont, but it was not going to be enough to shake Bachetti from taking the win.
Tremont crossed the line 2nd, followed by Stratton, Mark Flach Jr, was 4th, and John Ruchel finished a career best 5th.
Bachetti was looking to back up his big block victory with a win in the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series 24 lap feature event. At the start, Derek Schibi and Kenny Aaronson brought the field to the green, but caution flew on lap 3 for a spinning #44H of John Hotchkiss.
Schibi was still out front on the restart with DJ Faulkner’s #95 in the hunt for the top spot. Kenny Tremont, Andy Bachetti and Matt Quinn were charging through the field to make a run at the top spot. Caution flew on lap 6 for the #43A of Aaronson as he came to rest against the turn 3 wall. While under caution, Schibi’s car suffered a mechanical issue and he went pitside as well. This handed the lead to the #4 of Bachetti.
On the restart, Bachetti pulled away with Corey Sandstedt in tow. Steve Hough jumped into the 3rd spot by lap 8, Tremont into 4th by lap 12. Quinn had charged into 2nd by lap 17 with Tremont in tow. They battled for the runner up spot for the remaining 7 circuits casue that was the only race left, as Bachetti powered to his 2nd win of the night.
Quinn won the battle for 2nd and Tremont settled for 3rd. Sandstedt settled for 4th and Hough locked down a top 5 finish.
The Sportsman 20 lap feature event saw the #12 of Brian Sandstedt power into the lead on lap 3, and didn’t look back. With just 2 cautions to slow the field, Sandstedt had too much for the field to handle and took the win. Danny Sanchez darted his way to the 2nd spot while Kyle Hoffman settled in for 3rd. Frank Harper scored a 4th place finish and Alan Houghtaling powered into to a top 5.
Victor Hopkins was in control of the Pro Stock feature event early, staying out front of everyone for nearly the first dozen circuits until Robbie Speed wrestled the top spot away by lap 13. The caution flew on lap 17 for a spinning #112, but it was going to be enough for anyone to get to Speed.
Robbie Speed takes the win with Hopkins settling for a strong 2nd. Rick Dempsey crossed the line 3rd followed by Paul LaRochelle, and a charging Matt Shadic completed the top 5. Also, Chuck Towslee scores his first Limited Pro Stock win.
In the Pure Stocks, PS#1 was captured by Jay Martin, PS#2 was won by Matt Humes, while PS#3 captured by Phil Wood.
A special 20 lap Canaan Auto Supply and A-Z Landscaping Pure Stock Shoot Out was won by Phil Wood as well after Jay Casey’s #41 blew his motor on the last lap handing the win over to Wood. Rob Partridge Jr was 2nd followed by Chris Streeter, Matt Humes, and Dave Stickles to round out the top 5.
Next Saturday is set for yet another exciting night of racing action at the Valley of Speed. Saxton Signs and Snap-On Tools present Bikers Night! All bikers get in for free! The Modified King of the Track returns as well as Budget Sportsman, and a special Conklin Limestone $1,500 to win Sportsman Feature!
