Suzuki Support for Cancer Kids
LAVERTON NORTH, AUSTRALIA – August 4, 2009: Suzuki Australia has increased its level of support for young cancer patients at Sydney Children’s Hospital, with the donation of $12,000 to Executive Director Professor Les White.
The money was raised at an auction event during the Dealer Principal launch of the new Alto sub-light car.
The funding comes on top of the donation of a Suzuki SX4 AWD car by Suzuki Australia and Rick Damelian Suzuki to the hospital earlier this year.
The donation will support the Hospital’s Centre for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders - an internationally recognised centre of excellence that has been caring for patients for over 40 years.
Professor White explained that while childhood cancer was still the second most common cause of death in children, survival rates in that time had risen from 20 per cent to 80 per cent.
“This modern medical miracle has resulted in the remarkable statistic that today one in every 700 young adults will be a survivor of childhood cancer.
“The contribution by Suzuki will greatly benefit children with cancer and will assist in ensuring the Hospital remains one of Australia’s leading paediatric institutions.
“We are most grateful for this ongoing partnership with Suzuki Australia and look forward to working together in the future to help our children with cancer at Sydney Children’s Hospital” Professor White said.
Suzuki Australia General Manager Tony Devers said he was delighted the company could assist with the commendable work of the hospital’s oncology service.
“We are happy to assist in the vital work of sustaining the efforts of the many fine people involved with the centre,” he said.
