Liberty Mutual Addresses Teachers' Unique Needs With Customized Car Insurance Policy
BOSTON, Aug. 3, 2009 -- Liberty Mutual, the nation's eighth largest car and home insurer, announced its customized car insurance policy for full-time teachers and school administrators is now available in 42 states and the District of Columbia. The no-cost teachers' auto policy endorsement protects the school supplies and equipment they often buy with their own money and transport or store in their cars.
"Recognizing the responsibility and personal investment that our teachers make in their students, we are addressing their unique insurance needs without further stretching their tight budgets," said Greg Gordon, Liberty Mutual senior vice president, Consumer Marketing. "Teachers' cars often double as their office, so protecting their work-related contents in their car can be just as important as protecting the car itself."
For most teachers, that out-of-pocket investment is significant. During the 2007-08 school year, the average teacher spent nearly $400 of his or her own money on classroom supplies. That burden is double for first-year teachers, who spent nearly $800 on average, according to a recent study by the National School Supply and Equipment Association.
The Liberty Mutual customized car insurance policy provides the following features at no additional cost:
-- Personal Property Coverage: Educational materials or school-owned property stolen from or damaged in the teacher's car are covered at actual cash value up to $2,500, with a $50 deductible. -- A Comprehensive Deductible Waiver: The comprehensive deductible is fully waived if the car is vandalized while parked at the school or at a school-sponsored function. -- A Collision Deductible Waiver: The collision deductible is fully waived if a covered crash loss occurs while traveling on school business (collision deductible is reduced to $100 in Pennsylvania).
Teachers and administrators who are members of one of Liberty Mutual's more than 12,000 affinity groups -- including more than 1,200 educational partners -- also could qualify for an additional discount. In addition to addressing teachers' special insurance needs, Liberty Mutual also created Learn Return, a program providing resources to help teachers achieve their professional development goals and requirements. Through an exclusive collaboration with Pearson, the global leader in education publishing, teachers can receive a 15 percent discount on more than 100 graduate courses in over 15 content fields. Teachers also can apply for one of several Liberty Mutual Learn Return scholarships for a fully funded master's degree program through Pearson's educational partners.
