SHANGHAI, CHINA, August 3, 2009: August 3, 2009: General Motors Company announced today that July domestic sales of the automaker and its joint ventures in China jumped to 144,593 units -- an increase of 77.7 percent compared to last year. This was GM China’s best July ever, extending an uninterrupted series of single month sales records that started in January 2009. For the first seven months as a whole, GM China and its joint ventures sold 959,035 vehicles, up 42.8 percent in comparison with the first seven months of last year.

Shanghai GM registered year-on-year sales growth of 60.6 percent in July to 56,489 units. Both Buick and Chevrolet set calendar year-to-date sales records. The new Buick LaCROSSE set a strong early pace with 3,787 units sold in its first two weeks in the market. The total sales of the new LaCROSSE and the new Regal in the upper-medium segment exceeded 10,000 units in July. In addition, monthly sales of the Chevrolet Cruze grew to 8,764 units in July, achieving its best single month since it entered the market in April.

SAIC-GM-Wuling sales rose 90.7 percent in July on a year-on-year basis to 87,925 units. Its Wuling Sunshine minivan remained China’s best-selling motor vehicle with 50,564 units sold, a 72.7 percent increase over July last year. Its high-end minivan, the Wuling Rong Guang, likewise recorded strong sales of more than 20,000 units.

“The GM family has been among the major beneficiaries of the sales momentum in China that began building in February,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of GM China. “We have additional new products on their way in the coming months that will enable us to keep up with the growing demand for high-quality personal transportation.”
