Freescale Receives Coveted Continental Automotive Supplier of the Year Award

AUSTIN, Texas--Freescale Semiconductor received the prestigious Automotive Supplier of the Year 2008 Award from Continental Automotive Group. During an awards ceremony held on July 28 in Regensburg, Germany, Continental recognized Freescale for overall excellence in the microcontroller (MCU) category.

“The global success of Continental as a systems supplier in the automotive industry would not be possible without our suppliers, whose expertise and experience support our development, production and logistics capabilities,” said Helmut Matschi, head of Continental’s Automotive Interior Division. “Our prime objective is to deliver innovative, flawless products to our customers. Suppliers play a major role in helping us achieve this.”

Continental Automotive Group works with a broad range of electronics and electro-mechanical system suppliers who must meet Continental’s stringent requirements in 30 technological categories and in more than 60 locations worldwide. In determining its nine 2008 Supplier of the Year winners, Continental evaluated nearly 300 candidates among its 810 global suppliers. Winners were chosen based on several performance categories, such as technology, quality and product delivery, as well as strategic considerations, such as company culture, product roadmaps and commitment to the automotive market.

“Freescale is deeply honored to be named a Continental Automotive Supplier of the Year,” said Reza Kazerounian, senior vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Microcontroller Solutions Group. “Continental requires the utmost in technology innovation, manufacturing quality and customer service from its preferred suppliers. Freescale is dedicated to excellence in each of these areas, and we look forward to many more years of close collaboration with Continental in delivering pacesetting solutions for the global automotive industry.”

Freescale has more than 30 years of experience in the automotive industry and long-standing customer relationships with the world's leading automakers and tier-one suppliers, including Continental. The company continues to drive advances in standards-based silicon and software solutions to meet the latest technological challenges in automotive safety, fuel-efficiency, emissions control, and telematics and infotainment.

According to Strategy Analytics, Freescale is the No. 1 supplier of semiconductors to the automotive industry. Freescale provides a wide range of 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit Power Architecture® MCUs, analog devices and MEMS sensors for automotive applications ranging from safety and chassis systems to powertrain management to body electronics and driver information systems. Widely used in the automotive industry, Freescale’s Power Architecture MCUs are becoming a de facto standard for body electronics, safety systems, and powertrain systems that control gasoline and diesel engines, hybrid drive trains and automatic transmissions.
