MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – August 3, 2009: The stunning new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is now on sale in authorised Australian showrooms.

Both the sedan and coupé versions of this technology-rich luxury model were revealed to the Australian media last week; now customers can begin enjoying this award-winning car.

Authorised Mercedes-Benz passenger car dealers have commenced delivering the all-new E-Class to eager customers, many of whom have had their orders in place for months.

“Delivering cars to excited customers is by far the best part of any new model release,” said Horst von Sanden, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Cars in Australia.

“For the hundreds of customers who placed deposits many months ago it’s been an exciting wait and I’m thrilled the first of them can finally begin to enjoy their new cars.

“For the many more who have been waiting for the chance to experience our latest arrival the time has come,” said von Sanden.

Much of the anticipation already seen with prospective customers has not just been the result of the cars’ benchmark levels of technology; it’s the immense value they offer.

In line with the German car maker’s successful and ongoing First Choice strategy, the new E-Class model range has been specifically positioned in the Australian market to provide more of what customers expect and want in terms of standard equipment levels and pricing.

For example, the new entry-level turbo-diesel E 220 CDI has been priced more than ten percent below the outgoing entry-level E-Class model, and the soon-to-arrive E 250 CDI, also turbo-diesel powered, is priced around nine percent beneath the previous E 280 CDI. This is despite an equipment-rich standard feature list and almost 14 percent more torque from its highly efficient twin-turbo diesel engine.

What’s more, the popular V6-powered E 350 sedan has been priced almost $3,000 below its predecessor but gains some $13,000 in additional standard equipment.

Initial customer deliveries of the new E-Class range will start with the E 350 (petrol V6) and range-leading E 500 (petrol V8) sedan and coupé models. The turbo-diesel V6 E 350 CDI and four-cylinder models will arrive in Australian showrooms from September.

Those seeking to test drive the all new E-Class can find their local authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer by visiting www.mercedes-benz.com.au .

Technology leader
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class resets the benchmark with its impressive arsenal of passive and active safety features. Designed according to a comprehensive safety concept, highlights of the available safety equipment include:

  • PRE-SAFE anticipatory occupant protection system which can predict an accident and ‘prepare’ the car before an impact;
  • ATTENTION ASSIST driver fatigue detection system;
  • Intelligent Light System, offering five different headlight functions for safer night-time driving;
  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist for maximum road illumination at night;
  • Lane Keep Assist to warn of accidental lane departure;
  • Blind Spot Assist to warn of vehicles in the driver’s blindspots;
  • DISTRONIC PLUS radar-guided cruise control;
  • PRE-SAFE Brake autonomous emergency braking system

    Award-winning looks and environmental credentials
    Not just intelligent, the new E-Class is also good looking. This year, readers of AUTO BILD magazine voted it the best looking car in the world, taking out overall winner amongst all new models.

    After examining 40,000 individual environment-related processes, Germany’s TÜV Süd awarded the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class an environmental certificate according to ISO standard 14062, making it the sixth Mercedes-Benz model to be awarded the prestigious and sought-after certificate.

    The all-new E-Class sedan and coupé replace successful model variants that all but sold out well ahead of the new models’ arrival. The previous E-Class sedan and CLK-Class coupé variants have been popular with Australian customers, their sales rate accelerated by the German car maker’s immensely successful recent ‘Let’s Talk’ marketing campaign.
