~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Weaver Wins at Wild Willows RaceSeries points co-leader O'Donovan caught up in multi-car incidentJuly 30, 2009
Willows, CA
This past weekend was round ten for the
Standard Formula Mazdas that are competing
for the Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge
Championship. Bill Weaver and Derry O'Donovan
showed up to the event tied in points, and it
looked as if the battle was going to be a
good one with Weaver taking the pole position
and O'Donovan taking the second slot.
Twenty eight cars of various types and
classes took the green, and as the group
cleared turn three a couple of the overall
leaders got tangled up. This started a chain
reaction that had nearly every car in the
field bumping into somebody. "After the race
the SCCA Steward told me that he had a
hundred reports and witness statements just
from lap one," noted one of the
competitors.
Weaver was able to clear most of the on track
issues, and it looked like O'Donovan was
clear of them as well. As O'Donovan turned in
for turn five a couple of the cars behind him
tangled and the #81 car took evasive action
and ran into the side of his Formula Mazda
ending his day.
Once the dust cleared Weaver was leading the
FM class and Stew Tabak was running second.
They would take the checkered flag in the
same positions. Kevin Rogers and Cameron
Parsons ended up having great finishes.
Rogers, who was not running for Molecule FMC
points, finished 3rd and scored his first
Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge podium.
Parsons, who is in the series, finished in
4th place and will take 3rd place points for
his best race of the season.
The next Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge
race weekend is the NASA double header at
Thunderhill Raceway on October 3rd-4th.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Series to be featured at Mazda Raceway InvitationalNo sound limit double header in Monterey will feature all types of interesting racing (FE, FC, FM, and Pro FM invited)June 23, 2009

Monterey, CA

The Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge series
has been selected to race in a very unique
event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca without
any noise restriction. "This is an event that
will feature vintage motorcycles, classic
Formula One, and Historic NASCAR so I don't
think we'll be the loudest group out there,"
stated series Official Ben Hettema. "We were
able to secure three exclusive sessions per
day, and we will have a practice, qualify,
and race session each day." The event takes
place September 12th-13th.

There are only 6 weekends per year that don't
have sound restrictions at Mazda Raceway so
the value of this event can't be
underestimated. "These open wheel Mazdas see
an incredible increase in power, and decrease
in lap times once you can open them up,"
noted Hettema. "We expect a good turnout
because for some of the racers in our series
this is the only opportunity they'll ever get
to see what they can do at Mazda Raceway with
their car wide open."

The only cars that are invited for this event
are the Star Pro Formula Mazda that is
powered by the 13b Renesis found in the new
Mazda RX8, the Standard Formula Mazda that is
powered by the 13b Rotary found in the mid
80s Mazda RX7, the Formula E which features
the same powerplant that is used in the first
generation Mazda3, and the F2000 car which is
powered by the same 2 liter engine that was
installed in the first generation Mazda
Tribute SUV.

"This is more than just another race
weekend," stated the event organizers. "It is
an experience that will be so much fun it
should be illegal." The weekend opens with a
Friday night welcome BBQ. On Saturday there
is a banquet that all drivers are invited to,
and a film crew will be working both days and
each driver will receive a commemorative DVD
of the event.

The Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge is a
regional Formula Mazda series that keeps
costs in check by limiting travel to a
general region and racing spec open wheel
cars.

The series forges into its fifth consecutive
season as an officially sanctioned NASA race
group. The year end cash awards have grown to
over $18,000 for the season with the addition
of support from MAZDASPEED.

Returning series partners include Star Race
Cars, Goodyear, and title sponsor Molecule
Labs.

The MFMC run group will be limited to 35
cars MAXIMUM!

Entries will be processed on a first come
first served basis. Registration is open
now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mazda Sets the PaceOn any given weekend, there are more Mazdas
on the road-race tracks of America than any
other brand of vehicle.  At the track, you'll
see MX-5 Miata, RX-8, MAZDA3, MAZDA6, RX-7
and other vintage Mazda models competing,
because every Mazda has the Soul of a Sports
Car.
