Kinser, Tony Stewart Racing's Bass Pro Shops Team Venture to Canada and Ohio

INDIANAPOLIS, July 28, 2009: The travel itinerary of a World of Outlaws (WoO) racer includes a little bit of everything. This week, WoO star Kraig Kinser and the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) teams travel into Canada for the first of two 2009 events north of the border. After competing all across the United States, Kinser is looking forward to his first Outlaw event in the Canadian province of Ontario and the chance to race at another venue for the first time.

Kinser will make his debut at Ohsweken (Ontario) Speedway on Tuesday night driving TSR’s No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/Chevy/J.D. Byrider Maxim. Two complete nights of racing are scheduled at the 3/8-mile track before the Outlaws resume action on Saturday night at K-C Raceway in Waverly, Ohio.

Last July, Kinser and the Bass Pro Shops team made their way to Ohsweken only to endure a pair of rainouts. The Outlaws have had one race at the track and that was held in July 2007. In that event, Jason Sides narrowly defeated Kinser’s current TSR teammate, Donny Schatz. Kinser made several debuts during the 2008 WoO campaign, including a memorable October night when he picked up his ninth career WoO “A” Feature triumph at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn.

It’s back to American soil on Saturday night, when Kinser and the Outlaws make their return to K-C Raceway. Kinser has nine career starts at the southwestern Ohio track. He made his debut in April 2000 and he has twice finished second, including in September 2003, when he was the runner-up in the All-Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) Sam Erwin Memorial race. Last July, Kinser charged from an 11th-row starting spot to finish 11th in the 40-lap feature.

Kinser enters the week of action following a 10th-place finish on Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y. Kinser and the Bass Pro Shops team have completed 43 of the 84 schedule nights of WoO racing in 2009. The Mooresville, N.C., resident has scored nine top-five finishes and 20 top-10s. He currently ranks ninth in the WoO Sprint Series championship standings with 5,260 points.

Every day, it seems like you are heading somewhere new. What are your thoughts about racing at Ohsweken Speedway for the first time?

“I’m excited about it. Last year, we came up here and only got to watch it rain for two days. Glen Styres and everyone involved with the racetrack have done a good job creating an event up here. I just hope we can get a couple nights of racing in and have a couple of good shows.

“Racing at a track for the first time is always kind of a challenge and that’s the fun part. It’s a fresh start and, hopefully, a chance for us to come out and put a complete night together. We’ve been working toward that all year and the last race I won (Oct. 2008, North Central Speedway, Brainerd, Minn.) came the first time I raced at that track. Maybe we can repeat that performance again.

“When you race more and more, it allows the team to really gel and become a machine with all the parts working together. That’s why it’s so important to be consistent and start building on things from one race to the next. We’ve got a great opportunity this week to build on good runs last week at the Brad Doty Classic and Kings Royal. The other good part about this time of the year is there is a lot of extra money out there to win, too.”

On Saturday, it’s back to Ohio and K-C Raceway. The track is your typical, midsize Midwestern dirt track. What are your expectations for Saturday’s race?

“K-C is place a lot like the ones around home in Indiana. It’s not a big place, but it’s a high-speed place where you can really have a good show. Last year, we raced from the back to finish 11th, so we’re hoping to start a little closer to the front this year. It’s kind of our last one-night program until after the Nationals, so it’d be a good time to have a solid performance before heading to the big race at I-55 and the Knoxville Nationals.”
