Mitch Dorr Race Report - TORC Oshkosh

DORR IS RUNNER-UP IN OSKHOSH ROUND 6
/Only 2 Points Behind Championship Leader/
/ /
Rockford, IL (July 27, 2009) ? Mitch Dorr was looking to recover
from the Round 4 wreck that took his #817 Fabricated Steel Products
Goodyear Tires Ford F-150 out of the race before he could clear the
first turn. Now with the front suspension repaired, Dorr Off-Road
Racing was ready to take the fight for the Stock Truck Championship to
the Oshkosh Speedzone. The weekend of racing marked the halfway point
of the Midwest SRT TORC season, so every finishing position is at a
premium.
The .7-mile layout in and on the banked half-mile oval was a
combination of high-speed jumps and a series of jumps and then whoops
throughout the infield portion of the layout.
FRIDAY ? ROUND 5
The USAC style rolling start was used with all the races; this put
Mitch starting in row 4 next to #837 Ruppel. The start saw most of the
fourteen Stock Truck field bang and bounce off each other coming
through the first turn and onto the infield.
By the third lap, the Fabricated Steel Products Ford held the third
position. Two laps later, Mitch moves up a spot and is on the bumper
of the leader, Ruppel.
As the field was racing to the competition caution lap, the red
Goodyear Tire Ford bicycles and misses a jump while the field bunches
up together going through the infield and moves back to third place.
During the yellow flag lap, track officials move Mitch Dorr back
three spots due to a missed jump.
When the racing continues Mitch really is pushing hard to make up
the lost positions. When the checkered flag falls, Mitch Dorr and his
#817 Fabricated Steel Products Goodyear Tires Ford F-150 crossed the
finish line in fourth place.
SATURDAY ? ROUND 6
The fourteen Stock Trucks came rolling to the line and continued to
put on the best racing of the weekend. The race featured all kinds of
contact, with a few drivers being sent to the penalty box, but somehow
a select few ran without much incident. One of those was Mitch Dorr.
The final lap saw a door to door battle with #837. As the two trucks
crossed the finish line, Ruppel edged out Dorr by about three feet for
second place. Just as the top three drivers were headed to the podium,
track officials penalized the winner for rough driving, giving the win
to Ruppel and second place to Mitch Dorr.
?This was a wild weekend of racing,? commented Mitch Dorr. ?I can?t
agree with all the calls from the officials, but after all that?s said
and done we are still in challenging for the season championship. The
standings have the top five drivers within five points of each other,
and we are only two points out of the lead. There was a ton of contact
out there, and our Raceline Allied Wheels and Goodyear Tires kept us
in the game all weekend. The rhythm section Ricky put together was
really long, but our King Shocks kept this Ford F-150 straight and on
the power. I can?t wait to get to Bark River.?
Mitch Dorr thanks all his supporters including: Fabricated Steel
Products, Auto Trans Designs, Goodyear Tires, Raceline Allied Wheels,
