Daly moves up to Top three in Star Mazda Championship after Unique difficulties.

Joliet, July 27, 2009: During the Harrah's Star Mazda Grand Prix at Autobahn Raceway double header weekend, Mazdaspeed driver Conor Daly scored 3rd and 5th place finishes that moved him up to two steps to third place in the season points standings. Saturdays podium finish came with a tinge of frustration because Conor was simply unable to match the speed of either Peter Dempsey or Adam Christodoulou. “Dempsey was just playing with the field”, said Conor. “for the second race in a row, his car was in a different speed class”.
On Sunday a most unique issue surfaced. For some inexplicable reason, Daly’s car was fitted with a harder front right side compound that still has the Goodyear engineer’s wondering what happened. This mismatch of tires stopped the car from turning effectively to the left and forced the brake bias to be adjusted rearwards to stop the harder right side compound from locking up under heavy braking. Fearing that there was some sort of mechanical issue, Daly spent the first few laps assessing the car and adjusting from the cockpit as best he could before settling into defending the fifth place that he gained on the run to the first corner.
“To be hampered like this is a little frustrating, especially as I didn’t know what the issue was. Third place was the best I could have hoped for anyway because Dempsey’s and Christodoulou’s new design variant of Star Mazda cars are just plain faster. Regardless, we got some points and I moved into 3rd in the Championship so it's all good. So we'll get ready and go at it again when we get to Trois Rivieres. "
