PETALUMA, CA – Defending series Champion Sean Becker of Sacramento continued his winning ways this past Saturday night with another victory in the Hoosier Racing Tires California Sprint Car Civil War race series at Petaluma Speedway.
Saturday’s victory was Becker’s third of the season in the event that marked the eighth segment of the traveling series for 360 cubic inch sprint cars. The win was Becker’s second of the year at the famed track on the Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds.
“I really owe this one to my crew tonight,?? said Becker. “It was Scooter Lambert and James Riolo who set the car up perfectly so we’d be good at the end of the race.??
After posting the fastest time of the night with a 12:850, one of six times in the 12 second bracket Saturday, Becker placed second in his heat race behind his closest points rival Stephen Allard of Chico.
The preliminary success resulted in a fourth place starting position for the 30-lap feature event for Becker. At the waving of the green flag the former Silver Dollar Speedway and Golden State Challenge Series Champ found his way around third place starter Myles Bishop of Escalon and then moved into second place when bridesmaid Herman Klein of Sacramento rolled over in the second turn of the sixth lap.
With six laps complete Becker overtook pole sitter and early leader Mike Henry of Sacramento. Once in front Becker never looked back as he drove to the finish line with Henry in tow. Rohnert Park’s Brett Rollag finished in third, driving up from the 18th positions. Bradley Terrell of Sebastapol charged from 17th into the fourth position while seventh place starter Chad Compton of Fair Oaks rounded out the top five.
In preliminary competition on Saturday night Allard won the opening heat race. Additional winners included Jake Haulot and Joey Magaruh. The B-main was captured by Nicole Miller who was followed across the line by Wes Gutierrez, Ivan Worden, Compton and Kenny Allen.
This coming Saturday the Civil War stars will compete for their highest paying regular event of the season at Placerville Speedway with the $3000 to win Family Chevrolet Tribute to Al Hinds event. The race includes a $1000 bonus from the local auto dealership.
Prior to the race a huge sprint car show and fan bbq will be presented by the auto dealership at 4050 Motherlode Drive in Shingle Springs. The event is from 11 until 2 p.m. on Saturday and features free food, live music from Ron Pestana and the Pit Crew and the chance to win free tickets to the race throughout the day.
