Anderson Opens Sonoma Qualifying in Sixth
Â
Event: Â Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals
Location: Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, California
Date: July 24, 2009
Â
On paper, it would seem Greg Anderson had a good opening day at the Fram Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, CA. Taking advantage of the cooler temperatures on Friday, the Summit Racing Pontiac driver recorded two elapsed times in the 6.59-second range, with his best effort of 6.595-seconds at 209.39 mph in the evening session earning him the sixth position midway through qualifying. However, with his teammate Jason Line running two hundredths of a second quicker, the three-time winner felt something was amiss with his ride, and immediately began to search for ways to fix it.
Â
“The good news is that one of our Summit Racing Pontiacs is very fast right now,?? said Anderson. “The bad news is that both cars aren’t that fast, and I’m very puzzled as to why. For example, my car ran the same tonight as we did this afternoon when the air was 15 degrees warmer, so something went wrong. It didn’t make a bad run - it just didn’t run.
Â
“Nothing is jumping out at me on the graph, but there’s obviously something wrong with my car. The numbers aren’t adding up and we have to figure out why. As I said, the good news is that Jason’s car is=2
0fast, so at least we know we can run fast, and we have another day to fix it. We just have to look at all the data and figure out what’s different, and we will. We’ll try it again tomorrow.â€???Â
