While there is some debate about the origins of the term supercar, British motor journalist L.J.K. Setright claims to have coined the word in the 1960's while writing about the Lamborghini Miura. Used to describe the most prestigious designs and engineering advances in automobiles, supercars are created to showcase supreme advancements in technology and are often designed to push the limits of speed. They are generally not profitable for manufacturers. Only limited quantities are produced, which end up in private collections never to be viewed by the public.
