Yeager, Alvarado Top Sweetwater Foes in
EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (July 17-18) - Two familiar faces were back in
victory lane when the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Northern Tour traveled
to Sweetwater Speedway. Current IMCA Modified series point leader Justen
Yeager, a four-time track champion at Rock Springs, topped the Friday
night show in extending his tour winning streak to three events.
Two-time defending tour champion Ricky Alvarado returned to Wild West
Tour action and captured the Saturday checkers. The victory was his
career 21st on the EQ circuit. Both events paid $1,000 to win and put
Yeager and Alvarado on the ballot for the 2010 Fast Shafts All-Star
Invitational.
Zane DeVilbiss ran second in both shows, scoring runner-up points after
qualifying through his Friday "B" and starting way back in 19th. Roy
Spielman, Troy McElroy and George Ashby Jr. completed Friday's top five.
Dennis Durmas, Brad Boyer and Yeager ran third through fifth,
respectively, on Saturday.
Yeager made his opening night advance from the sixth starting spot.
DeVilbiss was up to 13th when the caution came out, took to the high
side of the track when the race went back to green and was up to second
in just five circuits. Coming off his fourth place finish in the Big Dog
Dakota Classic Tour, Alvarado took the checkers in his ninth consecutive
night on the track.
Alvarado took the green from the fourth spot and dueled with the eighth
starting DeVilbiss in a 30-lapper than went non-stop for all 30 laps.
Durmas, also racing for the ninth consecutive night, qualified by
winning his "B" and moved up 10 positions.
Next on the tour schedule is the Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14-15
doubleheader at Fairgrounds Speedway in Cortez, Colo. Pit gates and the
grandstand open at 4 p.m. both days. Hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. with
racing to follow.
