Red Line Oil to Debut New 8,000hp Dragster in Sonoma

Benicia, July 22, 2009): Top Fuel racer Doug Kalitta will debut the all-new Red Line Oil Top Fuel dragster this weekend at the 22nd Annual NHRA Fram Autolite Nationals in Sonoma to help the Northern California – based company celebrate its 30h anniversary. The thundering 8,000 horsepower, 300mph Top Fuel Dragsters are considered the fastest vehicles in auto racing, and will wear Red Line Oil colors just across the bay from the facility where the lubricants that keep it running are made.

"Infineon Raceway is our home track, so it’s the perfect place to celebrate our 30th anniversary,” said Tim Kerrigan, president of Red Line Oil. “This year Kalitta Motorsports is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, so we’re especially proud to be a part of that. Doug Kalitta has been driving Top Fuel Dragsters since 1998, and has won five out of 11 event championships at Infineon Raceway. This year he won the season opener in Pomona, California, and is currently in 9th place in Full Throttle Championship points. Kalitta has finished in the top ten in Full Throttle Top Fuel championship points in every season of his drag racing career. Prior to his career in drag racing, Kalitta was a dominant force in open wheel racing, claiming the 1994 USAC National Sprint Car Championship followed by runner-up points finishes in 1995 and 1996.

"Kalitta Motorsports and Red Line Oil go back a long way," Kalitta said. "They have helped us for years with technical support and product, and I’m really happy to represent them on their home turf for their anniversary. I’ve had more wins in Sonoma than any other track, so it feels good knowing I’ll be flying the Red Line banner there."

The relationship between Red Line Oil and Kalitta Motorsports began in 2000 when the team was a Red Line customer, using Red Line 70wt Racing Oil to bolster the reliability of its multi-vehicle drag racing team. Red Line began sponsoring the Kalitta cars in 2001, and the last Red Line primary sponsorship of a Top Fuel car was a runner-up finish by former Kalitta teammate David Grubnic in 2004, where he finished second to Doug Kalitta in the final round. Both companies are celebrating anniversaries in 2009 – Red Line’s 30th and Kalitta Motorsports’ 50th.

The Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals begin Friday with two qualifying sessions at 4:45 p.m. and 7:15 pm and again on Saturday at 12:30pm and 3:00pm. The top 16 qualified cars in each pro class will race Sunday in final eliminations beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals is the 15th of 24 national events in the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.
