Jupiter, July 21, 2009: Unpredictable weather, treacherous conditions, mechanical issues, 193 entrants, and a car driven for a total of 4 laps prior to the race on a road course famously known as “The Green Hell” wasn’t enough to keep Shane Lewis and Vic Rice from driving the No. 110 Gotz Motorsports Audi RS8 to victory lane. Shane and Vic placed first in class at the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen at Nürburgring this past weekend, the sporting highlight of the BF Goodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring.
“I have to say it was the most satisfying time I have had in a race car in quite awhile,” said Shane. “You see at the Nürburgring there is every corner known to man. When you do a lap that is 90% right here it is a feeling you just can’t describe.”
Throughout the event the team adjusted the strategy to overcome the unpredictable weather conditions and the brake issues that resurfaced towards the end of the event driving the car to 1st place in class and 27th overall of 190 entrants.
“I can’t say enough for the Gotz racing team and their great preparation and hard fought effort. To stand on the top step of the victory podium is a true credit to the entire team,” said Lewis. “It was also an honor to share the victory with Vic. He and I go back many years and have hard fought battles against each other on track. We have both been in victory lane as competitors, but never as co-drivers. What a great way to share this win!”
Lewis’ 2009 racing series continues when he will compete in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Saturday, August 9.
