Media Release from Handy Racing Promotions, Inc.

PLACERVILLE, CA – California’s top 360 sprint car drivers are headed back to ASA Sanctioned Placerville Speedway this Wednesday night for the highly anticipated return of Wild Winged Wednesday presented by Handy Racing Promotions. This event features the premier Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series.
Wednesday’s event is the seventh event of the year for the traveling Civil War Sprint Car Series and marks the second visit of the season to Placerville Speedway. This special event marks the second make up event of the year for the highly competitive series that competes at five different California tracks.
Back in June Placerville Speedway hosted the first special Wild Winged Wednesday event of the year, an event that lived up to it’s name and will long be remembered by many fans as the night a new race promoter took a chance against mother nature and hosted one of the most spectacular events of the year, on the track and in the sky.
“That night was incredible, I’ve won a lot of races at Placerville but that one is going to be one to remember for a long time,?? said Andy Forsberg, who won the earlier season event here before a capacity crowd that stood cheering him in the pouring rain as lightning surrounded the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. “Let’s hope the rain stays away this time though. These weeknight races are tough for a lot of drivers but we still love them. It brings the car counts up and produces a great show for the fans. Come out and show your support for Northern California’s best race promoter, you won’t be disappointed.??
Entering Wednesday’s event, defending series champion Sean Becker of Sacramento leads the series point standings by 31-points over Sacramento’s Herman Klein. In the last event here, Becker was part of a heated battle for the lead between Forsberg and Kyle Hirst when an accident in lapped traffic ended his night early. More recently, Becker cleaned house at Placerville Speedway with his second straight Mark Forni Classic victory.
“Placerville has been pretty good to us these past two years,?? said Becker, who drives for car owner Scott Miller. ‘We always look forward to coming up there and these Wednesday shows are a lot of fun.??
Klein scored a podium finish in the last Wednesday night event here and is Becker’s closest threat to the series championship. Stephen Allard of Chico is third in the point standings with Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park in fourth in the standings over Myles Bishop of Escalon, Placerville’s own Andy Gregg, Matt Sargent of Santa Rosa, Chad Compton of Fair Oaks and Jimmy Trulli of Placerville.
While the CWS top point runners will be on hand, look for many of Placerville’s regulars and select drivers from the Golden State Challenge ranks are expected. Three time Placerville winner C.J. Humphreys is sure to be on hand with Placerville’s Scott Russell, Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs, James Sweeney and Matt Barber of Placerville and many more. It’s expected that Los Angeles driver Tyler Walker will be among some of the non regulars of the tour and possibly Jason Statler of Grass Valley. Sacramento’s Bobby McMahan, top runner in the Silver Dollar Speedway series is slated as an entry as well as former series champions Mike Henry, Roger Crockett and more.
The Wild Winged action is set to get underway at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night. This will mark the only racing event at Placerville Speedway in the coming week as the quarter mile clay oval will be dark on Saturday night. Qualifying begins at 6:30 followed by a full racing program consisting of heat races, semi main events and a 30-lap feature event that pays $2000 to the winner.
