SPARTA,
Kentucky (July 18, 2009)- Brian Ickler broke the ARCA RE/MAX Series' one-lap
track record at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday afternoon, earning his career
first Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell, but will start Saturday night's
Click It or Ticket. Buckle Up Kentucky 150 from the rear of the field for
making unapproved adjustments to the No. 51 BrianIckler.com Toyota.
Ickler's
first lap qualifying time of 30.126 seconds (179.247 mph) eclipsed the track's
previous ARCA record of 30.213 seconds (178.730 mph) set by Erin Crocker in
2007.
Ickler, who is the only driver at Kentucky Speedway competing in both the
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series races this weekend,
was not as fortunate during his second qualifying lap, as he lost a gear in his
No. 51 BrianIckler.com Toyota and a trail of smoke poured out of his ARCA
RE/MAX Series Toyota on the backstretch as he circled the 1.5-mile speedway.
The team, led by crew chief Joe Shear, will make a transmission change while
Ickler competes in tonight's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. As a result
of making mechanical changes to the car during impound, Ickler will start tonight's
ARCA RE/MAX Series Click It or Ticket. Buckle Up Kentucky 150 from the rear of
the field. The race rolls off immediately following tonight's NASCAR Camping
World Truck Series race at Kentucky and is live on SPEED.
Ickler
was not the only driver with problems during qualifying. ARCA RE/MAX Series
Rookie of the Year contender Joey Coulter rolled out a back-up car following
his Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell run after making contact with the
turn two wall in his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet
during his first and only qualifying lap. He will start tonight's Click It or
Ticket. Buckle Up Kentucky 150 using a provisional just one week after earning
his career first Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell at Iowa Speedway.
Jesus
Hernandez, in a No. 56 GC Pollex & Associates-Lavender Boutique Chevrolet
owned by Martin Truex, Jr., qualified 12th fastest with a 30.807-second
lap (175.285 mph) but made contact with the turn two wall during his second lap
of qualifying. There was significant damage to his Chevrolet, and with no
back-up car, the driver will be unable to start tonight's ARCA RE/MAX Series
race.
Charlie
Vest spun the No. 1 LoanMax Ford before taking the green flag during his
qualifying run. The Ocoee, Florida driver made the race using a provisional and
will start from the rear of the field for changing tires during the impound
period.
Craig
Goess, who qualified 11th in the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of NC
Toyota (30.765 seconds/175.524 mph) will also drop to the rear of the field at
the start of Saturday night's Click It or Ticket. Buckle Up Kentucky 150 as his
Eddie Sharp Racing Team, led by crew chief Patrick Donahue, is making an engine
change prior to race time.
Current
ARCA RE/MAX Series point leader Parker Kligerman, the 18-year-old rookie, qualified
second in the No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge with a 30.215 second/178.719
mph lap, just missing the track record. Brad Reithmeyer qualified third in the
No. 32 Wolfpack Rentals Toyota and Josh Richards qualified fourth in the No. 25
Valvoline-Gunters Honey-Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet. Justin Lofton was
fifth, followed by JR Heffner, Frank Kimmel, Brad Sweet, Grant Enfinger and
