BECKMAN HAS MOMENTUM HEADING INTO SEATTLE
KENT, Wash. (July 14, 2009) - Jack Beckman is heading into the NHRA
Northwest Nationals this weekend at Pacific Raceways with momentum on his
side following one victory and a semifinal finish in the last two events of
the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.
Driving the revitalized Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Funny Car for
Don Schumacher Racing, Beckman is looking to make it a double at Pacific
Raceways, where he was the event champion in 2007 over 14-time national
champion John Force.
So far, in only his third full season of pro Funny Car competition, Beckman
stands fourth in the points rankings with a round-win record of 19-11.
"I can't wait," said, a two-time winner this year. "We've won in Seattle,
we're coming off a great couple of races, and we've got momentum. Everybody
on the Valvoline/MTS team has his chest out and feeling good with this race
team right now. We wish they'd start qualifying tomorrow.
"It's going to be interesting, coming from the hot mile-high atmosphere in
Denver (last weekend), and then going to not only a sea-level track but a
track where conditions tend to be cool and where it's surrounded by trees.
We get good oxygen there, so we can throw out the tune-up book from the
Denver weekend.
"The great news is we've got a good Seattle tune-up book to go off of."
Mail Terminal Services continues its popular "Mail From Home" campaign in
2009, supporting the U.S. troops serving in the war zones. In the past two
NHRA seasons the campaign has sent over 195,000 post cards overseas signed
by fans and supporters at each NHRA national event with messages of support
for the troops, along with numerous NHRA National Dragster issues and other
automotive magazines. Photos of cars and drivers were also included.
In 2009 the "Mail From Home" program has been challenged to exceed the
previous records of cards distributed to hit a 120,000-card record for one
season.
